About Modo AI
Modo AI is a research and advisory practice focused on AI search, meaning how AI assistants and agents find, read, and cite websites. We publish guides and research on how answer engines work and offer advisory work to teams that need to apply it to their own sites.
What we focus on
Our work follows the path a web page takes into an AI answer. That includes crawler access and robots.txt, rendering and readability for bots and browser agents, how engines retrieve and cite sources, and what can and can't be measured about visibility in AI search. We also write about the infrastructure underneath agents, such as tool protocols and authentication for machine users, because it shapes what agents can reach in the first place.
How we work
We build on primary sources. Claims about how an engine behaves are tied to the provider's own documentation where it exists and to published studies where it doesn't, and we say so plainly when a point is our own interpretation. Every guide carries the date it was last updated, because crawler names, controls, and defaults change often, and we revise the guides when their sources change.
We're careful with measurement. AI answers vary from one run to the next, so we report ranges and sample sizes, and we don't treat any single answer as proof of anything. The measurement guide sets out the reasoning in full.
Independence
Modo AI isn't affiliated with OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Perplexity, or any AI search vendor, and nothing on this site is sponsored. Several unrelated companies use the Modo name, and this practice at modoai.org isn't connected to any of them.
